Empowering people to tackle cancer and take up screenings across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Powys.

Cancer Champions Project shortlisted for two awards!

Our cancer champions work has gone from strength to strength this year – and has been recognised as a worthy finalist in two regional awards.

The project was shortlisted for both the Shropshire Business Chamber Awards, and the Powys Business Awards Community Champions categories.

To date the Cancer Champions project has recruited more than 600 people across Shropshire, Telford, and Mid Wales, all of whom have been trained to engage in peer to peer conversations about cancer.

By highlighting the signs and symptoms of cancer, and encouraging more people to access their cancer screening appointments, the project aims to contribute to more people across our region accessing health care and advice earlier, thereby getting an all-important early diagnosis and achieving the best possible outcomes.

Recognition from the regional business community referenced the charity’s involvement with a wide range of corporate organisations, as well as an even wider range of community-focussed groups.

The nomination for the Shropshire Business Chamber Award held in the summer read: “We have excellent relationships with many schools, colleges and community groups throughout Shropshire – as well as in the wider corporate world.

We all know cancer does not discriminate so it is important for us to foster excellent local contacts in order to access as many people as possible in the community to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of cancer, recruit more cancer champions, engage in more conversations, and encourage early diagnoses wherever possible.”

Miranda Ashwell, Helen Davies, and Kerry Morgan from Lingen Davies’ LiveLife Cancer Awareness team attended both awards evenings with other colleagues and trustees.

Miranda, LiveLife Project Lead, said the nominations and being shortlisted was a wonderfully deserving testament to the hard work and dedication of the team.
